The Helga Cake from the book...

... My Life from Scratch: A Sweet Journey of Starting Over, One Cake at a Time. This is one of my favorite books and I know I've mentioned it a bunch of times, but I urge you to get it. Her story telling is great, her detailed instruction is wonderful and the art work done by her husband is lovely. Also, if you ever get stuck, she puts tutorials on her blog!

This cake is made with pecan meal instead of flour, so it's gluten free. It's a rich warm flavor and wonderful with the bittersweet chocolate butter cream. I made it for a friend's birthday and it was fairly easy (the expert instructions made it simple).

It's a nice light cake and the icing is almost fudge-y. Delicious!

Now, I'm going to try making a chocolate biscuit cake. We had a slice with tea when we were in Dingle, Ireland and I fell in love with it.
