Macaroni and cheese, please!

I came upon this recipe at Brown Eyed Baker, one of my favorite food blogs. She provides great recipes and instructions as well as beautiful photographs.

This recipe was pretty easy to make and left us with lots of leftovers, which is great when there is a busy work week ahead. I love the combination of Gruyère and cheddar cheeses. I wasn't able to find cremini mushrooms so I substituted baby bellas.

Double recipe weekend!

We decided that this weekend we would bake together. I made a chocolate silk pie this morning and for dinner T and I made a homemade herbed chicken pot pie. Both recipes from The Art and Soul of Baking.

The chicken pot pie is the perfect comfort food. Melts in your mouth and warms you up. The fresh chopped herbs are incredible. These may be my new favorite savory baking recipe.

This chocolate silk pie is amazing. Wonderfully rich and satisfying. It is so smooth and delicious.

That's three recipes out of that book so far. They've all been incredible. I can't wait until next week to try another!

Chocolate Tweed Angel Food Cake

Recipe number three for the year, chocolate tweed angel food cake with chocolate tweed whipped cream icing from the book Rose's Heavenly Cakes.

I made it to T's dad's birthday. It was very good and enjoyed by all. I found the directions to be well written and the recipe pretty easy. The cake is cut into three layers and filled with the whipped cream icing. Wonderfully light and the sweetness is tempered by the semi-sweet chocolate.

I'm really looking forward to the coming year of baking! 247 days until the wedding, 49 recipes to go!

The holidays are over.

Over the holidays, I baked many a cookie. For Christmas I received 6 new baking pans and two new baking cook books, Rose's Heavenly Cakes and The Art and Soul of Baking. This lead me to my New Year's resolution to bake one new recipe a week.

So far I've baked snickerdoodle cookies and today I made cinnamon chip muffins. My co-workers are going to love me . While I've made this resolution, I've also resolved to lose weight for our upcoming wedding in September. All proceeds of resolution one go to work to help me achieve resolution two!

The muffins are cooling as I type and I'm about to make a nice gooey glaze for them. mmm!

Edit! Muffins are done! T already ate two and I had one. They are super tasty.
